MP4 --> QT = 17 hours and counting???? [Jan. 8th, 2009|10:24 pm]
Apple Pro Users

I have two clips that I ripped from a dvd, each is about 13 min.
In order to edit them now in FCP, I have put them into Compressor.
In compressor, I submitted them as 'Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC)'.
The Batch monitor says it needs over 19 hours for the two clips.

can anyone please advise? How could I do this differently? Redo the rip in a different way/different format...?

its up to 21 hours now.

need help with dvd studio pro... [Nov. 13th, 2008|12:07 pm]
Apple Pro Users

hi, i am having some issues with dvd studio pro.

1st off i want to say it's been ages since i've done any editing, so be forgiving with steps and lingo. and 2nd, i've never edited in 16:9 before.

so here's my issue. i just got married, my friends did camera for me and i am now editing it. we shot in 16:9. after a few other issues i believe i got my footage in and got it all in the proper aspect and proportion. i am also putting together a few photo montage of honeymoon pics and us growing up.

so last time i edited (about 3 years ago) i recall exporting everything as quicktime files, then putting them in DVD studio pro, no problem. when i first did that this time i was having problems getting everything to be in 16:9. i think i have solved that issue, by exporting the movie in 16:9, so now when i watch the movies in quicktime all is good, but no matter what i do, when i put them in DVDSP, they are squished.

using DVDSP "simulate" function, this is how everything comes out:

i have tried setting DVDSP to 4:3 and 16:9 and nothing seems to work.

do i have something set wrong, or am i using the wrong process or what?

please help!!

Backups? Bootable variety - HEEELLLLPPP! [Oct. 24th, 2008|09:13 pm]

[mood |confusedconfused]

I am planning to pay someone to upgrade my Macbook Pro to give it a newer larger internal hard drive. I regularly back everything with Time Machine, but I was wondering what options I have for being able to smoothly transition to putting all my Apps and files onto the new hard drive - as I have been told that I have to do all the reinstalling of apps etc onto the new drive?

Please help! I am a total noob at this!

I am using OSX 10.5.5

Anyone been through this?
Can I simply install Leopard onto the new drive, then restore all apps and files from Time Machine onto the new drive?
OR if not...
Can you recommend the steps I might need to take to create a bootable backup disc and software I might use to do this? and what I should do once I get the new drive / upgraded Macbook Pro back?

[mood |worriedworried]

So for the last couple weeks, my MBP would keep turning off. No warning, no beeps. Nothing.
Then, barely even 30 minutes ago now, I flipped up my computed to check if I could unplug it,
and came up with this. Anyone know what happened and what's going on? I've decided to skip
out on studying for my midterm today in order to rush to the closest Apple store. Please, if you
know anything to help I'd much appreciate it!

Oh, and my MBP is only a year and a half old. :(

x-posted everywhere. :'(

Just wanted to share this:

This guys' Motion work uplifts me as well as makes me aware how amateurish I am, lol: http://theronin.co.uk/Motion/

Especially this piece of After Effects illustration: http://theronin.co.uk/Motion/?Leeds_Film_Festival.mov and this http://theronin.co.uk/Motion/?Things_Fall_Apart.mov - all just using still images and a Macbook Pro!
